The first collection of masks was produced in 2009 for a performance introducing the young belgian fashion
designer Giuseppe Virgone ́s menswear collection « Un animal devra mourir » (an animal must die).
I’ve been commissioned to take part in the story development in order to create the environment in which
the perfomance took place.
While working on the setting I developed the idea of masks in the shape of wild creatures, associated with
the silhouettes of the collection, and I started with eight head pieces. Two groups of four pieces were combined
in the show through a ritual, illustrating the mutation of male puberty.
During the ritual one model was wearing a gorilla faced, golden metal mask with sharp teeth that was
crowned with an expandable pair of feather wings on his temples. The other model was wearing three pieces
of the same metal. One completely covered the lower face and two covering the nose were set with four
large wild teeth. Each part could be worn separately.
